FROM COUNCILLOR DAVE HARRIS - COUNCILLOR KIM NAISH

and THE TEAM

My name is Dave Harris This is the my Councillor web site.

I am a local Borough Councillor for the ward of Berechurch in Colchester.

The Labour team and I carry out work for the area all year round, ensuring that the good people of Berechurch have their voice.

Councillors Dave Harris and Kim Naish in Berechurch

Our local Schools Monkwick Infants,  Monkwick Juniors, and Thomas Lord Audley Secondary School and Language College are highly thought of within the community.

We have residents associations growing in Berechurch. One example is Monkwick Residents Association, who do a great job of keeping our area on the map.

The area has a pleasant feel, the big issues are street cleanliness, and maintainance of our greenswards.

HEADLINE NEWS FROM AROUND OUR AREA OF BERECHURCH JUNE 2009

Councillor Dave Harris Thanks the Voters

The Election of a County Councillor took place on 4th June 2009.

With Berechurch flooding out to support Dave, it was clear that the larger area of Maypole out numbered Berechurch voters and Dave was 59 voters short of winning the County seat as well as being your Borough Councillor.

Dave said "I am proud of Berechurch residents who massively endorsed the work that the team and I do all year round. But the large area of shrub end and army estates outnumbered us so it was much closer than I had hoped. With a few MP's of all parties letting the side down, a normal hardworking Ward Councillor such as myself was put in the same category as MP.s and those who claim expenses. I have never claimed a penny for anything, and never would, I do it for the passion of my area and most people knew that in Berechurch. Thank you for your support, I will still continue to work for my area as always whatever the issue"

Grass Verge Problems

Councillor Dave Harris has obtained assurances that no more Shrubs will be taken out in Berechurch.

Residents of Queen Mary Avenue and King George Road worked with Dave to protest after the Council took out shrubs and flower beds

After the Highways budget was cut, one of the Council solutions was to replace shrubs in flower beds with grass, thereby cutting the cost of maintenance.

After speaking at length to residents, we realise we cannot undo what has been done.

Now, Dave has a petition going round that calls for Trees to be put in the verges where plants have been removed.

"It is a pity that we did not get consulted first" said one Queen Mary Avenue resident.

Councillor Harris said " I am adamant that no more shrubs in my ward are taken up , it is such a shame that some shrubs have already been removed."

Local Residents Mr and Mrs Dunt sign the petition to keep remaining shrub beds, and to have trees placed on sites already removed

MIDDLEWICK RANGES

There are plans to divert Footpath 162 and put up a 2.4 m high fence to prevent public use of this open space. For over a hundred years, the public have had to freedom to walk and enjoy the countryside when the Red "FIRING" flag is not flying

There are mixed feelings over this, but 98% of the people contacting us do not want a fence

To protest write to Planning Dept Town Hall Colchester, or to Dave Harris 12 Prince Philip Road Colchester Essex 01206 545889

SAVE TLA SCHOOL

The County Council are reviewing Education in Colchester, and unfortunately their preference is to shut Thomas Lord Audley School, and Alderman Blaxill School.

We can have Vocational Education for 14 to 19 years old after the school closes, and community use of the buildings, which is good, BUT - we need Secondary education at the school as a part of Stanway School. It makes no sense to bus children across a busy Colchester when there is room within our community school. Although it would be Stanway Teachers and Stanway Curriculum, we would have our young people educated locally.

We are totally opposed to shutting both Schools in this part of Colchester. To bus young people accross Colchester is not right.

We need to keep and improve our local Schools. Join the campaign to keep TLA as an Annexe of Stanway for our young people

PS - You can still sign up to Face book,

The Save Thomas Lord Audley School is on there for you to check out.

We can send a strong message to Essex County Council - we need our local School in Berechurch
