As your local Councillor I have had a busy year, so much work has taken place, with local people working with me throughout the whole year. I wish all residents a prosperous 2008

ROAD CLOSURE
You will probably know by now that part of Mersea Road is being shut off in one direction (starting 28/1/08) between Napier Road and Lucas Road. This will affect businesses and local residents travelling to and from the direction of town. I have had discussions with ECC and appealled for alternative routes to be opened up, but the Council tell me this is not their choice as it belongs to the garrison.!!! The road works go on to March 20th 2008... I will keep representing views of local people. Let me know your feelings...

HEAD LINE ITEMS FOR DECEMBER 2007
The exciting new Community Stadium is under way, and the stands can be seen from the A12.
Councillor Dave Harris and some of the group of Labour Councillors visited the building early December.
The stadium and facilities look great.
Dave said "I was very impressed with quality and design, this will be a great ground for the future, its been worth the wait"

Protest at time taken to clear polystyrene from Monkwick Ave
I was in Monkwick Ave delivering my parish newsletter, when I saw that some persons had taken 2 large sacks of polystrene chips, and left large quantities around the area of some Garages in the Avenue.
I reported the mess several times, by e mail, and phone call to Council. Unfortunately, the rapid response for such a clean up did not work, and took 5 days to clear away.
I am shocked that the process let us down, although the vandals who broke the sacks of polystrene chips are the culprits, the Council cleaning process did not effectively deal with the issue in a proper manner. The Gazette highlighted the matter, and Council officers tell me that the fact that Colchester Borough Council versus Colchester Boro Homes rules got in the way of delivery. I have raised this issue with Council, and I hope that such delays will not be the case for the future

Councillor Dave Harris, with Street Wardens - thanking Lord Hanningfield for the money October 26th 2007
Following the success of the Community Street Warden Service in helping local communities improve their quality of life and their environment, the service will now be extended.
Colchester Borough Council has recruited an extra two Community Street Wardens to extend patrols into the Berechurch area, which will come into force as from November. .
Councillor Dave Harris campaigned for some time with letters to Council, with meetings with leader of council and Portfolio Holder, and with the brillant help of the Monkwick Residents Association, a petition was collected and proved the need.
At the Budget setting meeting, other Berechurch Ward Councillors voted against The Street wardens.
It was nice to know that the power of our argument has won through despite their opposition. Dave Harris said “We are delighted to welcone the new Street Warden staff who are a positive addition in expanding the service into Berechurch"
